Meet The Coaches

Ben Martinez

Ben Martinez

I’ve been running for quite a while but just recently fell in love with ultra running and the mountains. I enjoy running and hiking. My favorite and most insightful distance has been the 100 mile run. I’ve completed 3 of them. 2 in Texas and (my favorite) in Utah. I began coaching about 4 years ago, and running with my group has become contagious. The fun. The camaraderie. The friendships. I could go on and on, but I won’t. I count some of the people in our club as some of my closest friends.

German Madrazo

I’m a 16x Ironman with a 10:44 PR, 10x marathoner with a 3:13 PR, Ultra marathoner, Nordic Ski Marathoner and an Olympian. I started Valley Running Co. to help promote the sport of running in our community. I’ve been a coach with Valley Running Club for 5 sessions and conduct a form clinic each session.

Iris Cisneros Buitron

I’m a mom of two beautiful boys and married to my love of 24 years. Running is a family activity for us. I joined Valley Running Club about 5 years ago. I’m in charge of the beginners’ group. I’ve run several 5ks, 10ks and a few ½ marathons, but I mostly run to keep up with Life. I run for fun!!!

Andy Ramos

I've been running for the past 5 years. I started knowing nothing about running. I grew up with the program which allowed me to have the courage to attempt my first ½ marathon. I now have completed 7 half marathons and 6 marathons, but , most importantly I have met some of the coolest people ever and think of them as my running family.

I’ve been with Valley Running Club since the group began when we were training for the San Antonio ½ Marathon. I began as a runner before becoming a coach. I’ve finished 6 marathons including Chicago, LA, San Francisco, New York, Houston and DC. I’m also a certified Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga instructor and certified TRX fitness instructor. I’m a mother of 2, and my kids participate in our club also. In addition to coaching, I also host our club Yoga class.

Jose Quintanilla

I am a Valley Running Club coach, and I work for Valley Running Co. and Endurance Splits. I discovered my love of running in high school while competing in cross country and track & field. I now get to spread that love with others in our running community. In addition to being a coach, I also am in charge of our club’s Strength & Agility class.

Mitchel Garza

Cycling was my thing... until I found a group to run with at Valley Running Co. back in 2011. It was a small group then, with one coach helping us increase our distance. Since then, I've run one full and several half marathons. I help coach with Lil' Joey.. he's the real Guru in our lil' group!

Joey Buitron

I’ve always been physically active. Played high school and college basketball. It wasn’t until my wife surprised me by signing me up for a half marathon about five years ago that I started to take running more seriously. That was my first race ever. Since then I’ve done several 5k’s, 10k’s, 1/2 marathons, 4 full marathons, and a few triathlons. Now I enjoy helping other runners meet their running goals. I enjoy playing basketball, cycling, swimming, and lifting weights. The best part of VRC is that I get to do it alongside my bride.
